9TH ASIA PACIFIC MINING CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION 13 14 OCTOBER 2010 AT SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, JAKARTA.
COALspot.com: (Press Release) In October 2010, the Indonesian Mining Association (IMA) and the Indonesian Coal Mining Association (APBI) will host the 9th Asia Pacific Mining Conference & Exhibition to be held on 13 – 14 October 2010 at Shangri-la Hotel, Jakarta.
This official ASEAN event is organized by the ASEAN Federation of Mining Associations (AFMA).
The event will feature a two-day Conference, as well as an Exhibition, and cultural and mine tours.
At the Conference, pre-eminent international speakers from more than twelve countries will discuss the new paradigm s affecting Asia’s mining industries, as barriers to ideologies, capital flows, trade, and communications fall away.
New sources of capital investment from China, India, Russia, and elsewhere are beginning to penetrate Asia’s mining industries.
According to Priyo P.Soemarno , AFMS’s Secretary General, “ There is a concern that these new investors may not always subscribe to the same high exploration and operating standards as traditional investors from Australia, Canada, and United States. It is important that Asia’s governments and private sector investors recognize this concern. The future success o f mining in Asia depends on continuous improvements to standards across a broad front, especially in CSR, environmental, labour, and safety matters.”
Some of Asia’s mining countries are grappling with a new ideological paradigm , as democracy replaces out-dated ideologies. Speakers from the public and private sectors in these countries will share their experiences with the sometimes-rocky transition to democracy in the hope that the regions’ mining industries can achieve their mineral production potential sooner rather than later.
APBI Chairman Bob Kamandanu says “ Indonesia is an example of a country in the midst of democratization. Our new mining law took more than ten years to see the light of day. It is still not complete, as we are waiting for three more implementing regulations.” It won’t be all serious business at this high level ASEAN event.
The Exhibition will offer delegates the opportunity to network with representatives o f some of Asia’s biggest mines, mining associations, and mine suppliers. Delegates’ spouses can take advantage of an entertaining Indonesian social program, and delegates themselves can choose from three Indonesia mine tours. The event will be capped off by a gala cultural show and dinner.
