BALTIC INDEXES ARE POSITIVE SINCE A FEW DAYS

Baltic indexes are positive since a few days which could mean that markets have bottomed out (as we correctly predicted in our report of last week!) and we will see increased rates this week and next week. Atlantic markets are seeing fresher enquiry on Continent and Black Sea. In the FEast there continues to be enough activity to keep rates at a stable level but sentiments remain mixed, some saying level has bottomed and we will remain at this level until at least Q4 others saying we are in for a further dip. However, Owners remain positive given recent rates and stability. Indo to China and India are fixing in the mid/high teens with a tick more for Nopac RVs. Backhauls, basis N China, have been seen in the low teens. Short period on modern tonnage is asking in the early 20´s.
Panamax
The slow market recovery indicated last week has continued, in particular in the Atlantic where some Charterers even find prompt requirements challenging to cover. In the Pacific the interest for short period has increased, although it is still based on limited volumes on levels around 23.000 day. TA`s fixed arnd USD 20,000, up USD 2,000 from last week. Fronthauls fixtures were done at 30,000 day. Pacific rounds kept fairly stable from last week at USD 18,000 day and the 2010 record low backhaul climbed from USD 11,000 to USD 12,000 day. The contango in the FFA market (for Q4) and the increased interest in period tonnage could indicate the market has passed a turning point.
Capesize
Fundamentally nothing is changed from last week, still a good number of ballasters as well as supply of ships for early dates in the east. There is presently a firm sentiment, but it seems mainly paper driven. West Australia round is presently around US$ 6.50 and Tubarao to Qingdao at 17 - 18 level. There have been done a couple of period fixtures this week, but overall the market is best summarized in two words; uncertainty and lack of cargoes. Furthermore, we are entering the holiday season in the east and less activity is expected.
