REVISIONS SHOULD AIM MINERAL AND COAL LAW
 VIVAnews reported that, the Consortium of Mineral, Coal and Geothermal-Producing Regional Governments (Minerbapabum) is asking the government to perform a judicial review on Mineral and Coal Law No 4/2009.
According to the consortium’s secretary general, RB Budi Sarjono, the law has led to several restrictions resulting in decreases in local income.
“We’re asking the government to conduct a judicial review,” Sarjono said in a discussion session at Jakarta’s Crowne Plaze Hotel on Monday, June 28.
He also said one of the articles in the law, which is Article 169, disserves the regions. Meanwhile, one of the forms of the judicial review is renegotiating the Work Contract and the Coal Business and Mining Agreement, which is already in effect. However, during the renegotiation, the local governments should be involved.
“The regions should be engaged in the renegotiation and the revision of existing contracts,” he said.
West Nusa Tenggara’s West Sumbawa Regent Zulkifli Muhadli said his party was suspecting a hidden sponsorship message in the law.
“One of them is in Article 169, stating that the amount of state income must not be altered,” he said.
Muhadli also questions the royalty of Newmont Nusa Tenggara that only includes gold and silver products and leaves out copper, which is the province’s biggest product.
