INDONESIA'S COAL EXPORTS FELL TO 18.52 - MILLION TONS IN MAY
 COALspot.com: Indonesia, the world largest coal exporter, shipped 18,529,695 of coal in May 2010. May coal exports dropped by 20.61 percent compared to April export of 23,331,542 MT. April 2010 exports were also downed by 15.51 percent compare to March 2010 loading.
According to our record, Indonesia’s first five-month coal exports have reached 116.753 mln MT by ending May 31, 2010
China & India Imports
China once again becomes the largest importer of Indonesian coal by importing 4.575 million tons of coal in May 2010 from 4.04 million tons in April 2010 or up 13.11 percent.

However, India’s imports from Indonesia dropped in May 2010. India has imported only about 3.217 million tons of coal in May 2010. Indonesia's coal exports to India down by 35.11 percent in May 2010. According to media, reports, South Africa has boosted sales to India by 12 percent in May 2010, against Indonesia’s exports to India fell by 12 percent. India has imported 1.93 million tons of South African coal in May 2010, compare to 1.72 million tons in April, Bloomberg reported.
Instead of drop in exports to India in May 2010, “Indian interests are still there, and it will continue," an exporter from East Kalimantan said. Indonesian coal prices (power plant coal ) are stable or boosting. “We are looking for premium above Newcastle index for our coal”, a marketing officer from well performed premium coal supplier said.
Indian & Chinese buyers are still dominating Indoensian coal market, the trend will continue and India & China will be major importers of Indonesian coal for this year.
Small scale producers were offering regular 6300 gad coal is around US$ 70-72 for loading July / August 2010. The well established and bigger coal mines were offering closer to US$ 100 for their high calorific Value coal with higher loading rate.
Indonesia has exported that, 2.58 MMT, 1.97 MMT, 1.65 MM and 1.21 MMT to South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Malaysia respectively.
Indian power plants, steel industries, cements industries are also actively looking for the coal concessions to secure their fuel on long term. Reliance Power has signed a share-sale agreement with Indonesia’s Sugico Group to acquire three coal mines and the total value of the deal will be $1.6 billion, If all contractual - linked targets are met.
RPG group of India through its subsidiary company ICML, is also looking for coal mine expansion in Indonesia. ICML is already operating a coal mine in India for captive use.
Top coal exporter
Bumi Resources as a parent company of KPC and Arutmin is a largest exporter of Indoensian coal in May. Bumi has exported around 3,49 million tons of coal in May.
PT. Adaro Indonesia, the single largest Indonesian coal exporter, exported around 2.18 mln tons of coal in May less 3.32 mln ton from April. According to our sources, around 10.85 mln tons or 58.57 percents of total export of Indonesian coal in May is done by top five 10 coal producers including Adaro Indonesia, Kaltim Prima Coal, Arutmin, Banpu and Kideco Jaya Agung.
Loading delays
The waiting time at Indonesian ports for coal vessels was quite normal in Month of May. However wet weather has affected the number of coal mines to reduce their coal export targets. Some of the mines even declare force Majour, due to high rain falls, which increased water level of river, that has affected barging activities.
