KRISHNAPATNAM PORT GROWS BY ALMOST 100% IN ITS SECOND YEAR OF OPERATIONS
COALspot.com ( Press Release): It has been a year of setting numerous records for Krishnapatnam Port. Krishnapatnam Port is only in its second year of operations and has achieved a cargo throughput of 16.1 Million MT of cargo for financial year ending 2009-10 as compared to its previous financial year’s figures of 8.2 Million MT. Not many ports in India has achieved such remarkable feet in such a short span of time.
Krishnapatnam Port handled 407 vessels during the fiscal that just ended as compared to 206 vessels the previous financial year. KPCL is a multi-purpose port, handling export cargo like Iron Ore, Granite whereas its import cargo consists of Coal, Coke, Fertilizers, Raw Sugar, Gypsum, Project Cargo and Crude Palm Oil.

Though Krishnapatnam Port is in its initial years of operations, it is already setting various benchmarks. The port has discharged coal at the rate of 42,527 MT / day and achieved a loading rate of 54,500 MT in 24 hrs for Iron Ore fines which is the highest in India using the conventional system of loading for ports in India. The port has handled a total of 2,500 trucks on a single day and achieved a new milestone on 17th February 2010 by handling 120,492 MT of cargo in a single day.
Krishnapatnam Port has just set sail and its remarkable achievement of almost 100% growth over last year has been possible because of its specialized teams’ efforts combined with superior infrastructure facilities.
The port has set an achievable target of 35 Million MT of cargo to be handled for the current financial year 2010-11. This will be possible as mechanized cargo handling systems like wagon tipplers, wagon loaders, conveyor system, ship unloaders, stackers & reclaimers will be operational at the port from October’ 2010 and will provide an iron ore load rate of 120,000 MT / day and coal discharge rate of 96,000 MT / day.
