INDONESIAN STATE OWNED COAL MINER SHIPPED 4 PERCENT MORE COAL IN 1Q
COALspot.com - PT. Bukit Asam, the Indonesian state owned coal miner shipped more coal in first quarter of this year compared to the same period in a year ago.
“For the period 1Q’13, PTBA’s coal sales jumped up 17 percent (YoY) from 3.9 Mt to 4.5 Mt. The export increases by 4% (YoY) to 0.8 million tons. The increase was in line with the company sales target of 55 percent for export market and 45 percent domestic in 2013.
The company further said in its report, the company has allocated more high calorific value coal in 1Q for export, which drives higher exports volume”.
PTBA has hauled 8 percent more coal (3.15 Mt) through its existing railway YoY. In the meantime, IPC one of the company’s subsidiary company, has produced 13 percent (YoY) less coal in 1Q (from 3.4 Mt to 2.9 Mt). Average strip ratio for 1Q 2013 was lower to 3.2:1 compared previously 4.1:1.
The company has booked sales of IDR 2.78 trillion (approximately US$ 286,008,230), down 8% YoY from IDR 3.02 Trillion (approximately US$ 310,699,588) in 1Q. According to company, the sales value was dropped due to the weakening of global coal prices in 1Q’ 13. However, the company able to achieved weighted average selling price of IDR 613,810 (US$ 63.14) per ton in 1Q’ 13.
The company has booked IDR 0.49 trillion (approximately US$ 50,411,522) as profit margin in 1Q’ 13 and, according to company, the margin was most influenced by sales volume, average selling prices and coal closing inventory. Company’s gross profit margin and net profit margin were 34% and 18% respectively.
PTBA is targeted produce / sell 20.68 million tons or 35 percent higher coal compared to last year quantity of 15.3 Mt in 2013, the statement said. The efforts of this increasing sale are in line with the increasing performances of railway transportation and coal outputs from its subsidiaries, both IPC and trading company Bukit Asam Prima.
The railway capacity is expected to reach 15.69 Mt or up 31.8 percent YoY from 11.9 Mt of FY2012. An additional of 44 more locomotives and 230 wagons are expected to arrive by June 2013 to support company’s future coal hauling activities. The subsidiary IPC coal output for 2013 is also expected to increase 1 Mt from 0.9 Mt in 2012. Bukit Asam Prima is targeting to sell 1.6 Mt in 2013.
In an effort of maintaining the efficiency and low production cost, the company has its owned 3x10 MW power plant to fulfill the internal electricity consumption to operate the whole mining system in Tanjung Enim.
In 2013, the company also keep doing the selective mine planning and mine optimization through strip ratio in the range of 4:1 to keep the production cost under control. In addition, the expanded port infrastructures in Tarahan Lampung will start its operation in October 2013. Once the expanded port infrastructure is in operation, the company can accept vessels of 150,000DWT and 80,000DWT at the same time for loading. The company is believes that, the commencement of this port operation will enhance the efficiency of shipping and port handling costs, the company said in its press release today.
PTBA has allocated total capital expenditure of IDR 2.2 trillion (approximately US$ 234,567,901) in 2013. Of which 80% dedicated for the infrastructures development in Tanjung Enim mine, Kertapati port and Tarahan port. While the remaining 20% allocated for routine maintenance.
PTBA’s other new projects in pipe line:
- The Construction of the power plant for the internal use (3x10MW and 2x8MW).
- The construction of 3x10MW in Tanjung Enim mine (mine mouth power plant) which will burn waste coal as its fuel.
- The Excess of power capacity from the power plant is estimated at 6MW has been agreed to be sold to the PLN with a tariff of IDR787.2/kwh. (approximately US$ 0.080 / kwh)
- The 2x8 MW power plants which still being built will be utilized to provide power to the daily operational needs of Tarahan port.
- The Expansion of Tarahan port with the throughput up to 25 Million tons per year.
- The Expansion of The Existing Railway to be 22.7 million tons in 2014.
- The Newly Developed Railway Project from Tanjung Enim to Lampung with a capacity of 25 million tons per year.
- A Coal Bed Methane project.
- Mine Mouth Power Plants 2x110MW, 2x620MW and 800 to 1.200 MW in several locations.
